Opening story by Rena Fruchter.

Presented by the Minstrel and the Storyteller

To hear all the fascinating Jewish stories and songs that women have told or in which they are the main character would take more than 1001 nights – and days. In this program, Storyteller Peninnah Schram and singer/guitarist Gerard Edery interweave folktales and songs of various genres from the Sephardic (Middle Eastern) and Ashkenazic (Eastern European) oral traditions.

Women in midrashim and Jewish folklore are often learned, wise, strong – and they use their voices to advise, sing, question, comfort, pray, warn, cry, speak words of Torah and of love – and sometimes they remain silent too. Together Peninnah and Gerard will present stories and songs of how women have used their voices, what wisdom we can learn from them, and in turn, teach our younger generations.
