Professor Yael Latzer

Professor Yael Latzer holds a BA and MA in Clinical Social Work from Haifa University, and a Doctorate of Medical Science degree (DSc) from Medical School, Technion. Haifa.  Professor Latzer’s main areas of research are the relationship between eating and sleeping disorders, identifying at-risk groups and prevention of eating disorders among Israeli Adolescents sub groups, eating disorders and family issues, and treatment intervention for eating disorder patients. In 1992 Professor Latzer founded the Eating Disorders Clinic of Rambam Medical Center, where she currently serves as Director. Prof Latzer helped found the Israeli Association for Eating Disorders and is active in the American Academy of Eating Disorders. Academically, she is an associate professor on the Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Sciences at Haifa University. She has published more than a hundred articles in scientific and clinical journals, as well as 46 chapters in various books. Four years ago she developed and established an innovative project, the rehabilitation house for young women with Eating Disorders who have entered their recovery phase of treatment. (“Zeida Laderech”). Over the last 10 years she has been active as an advisor to the Israeli Knesset and has contributed dramatically to the change in treatment policy regarding eating disorders. In the 2013-2014 academic year she will be on a sabbatical in NYC, joining a research project in the psychiatric department at Columbia University.
